Footrest from Thailand

A lot of the foot rest in the market are from Toyota. Thailand. Here's the original part number for the Original Toyota Thailand foot rest.

Part Number: 58190-68010.
Part number for the Original Toyota Thailand Aluminum pedal trim set is PZ022-0M001. As all Thailand 2.0 L Wish has the foot rest, the corresponding pedal trim set is a 3 piece set inclusive of the foot rest plate, brake and acccelerator plate. The Toyota Japan version has an option of with or without the foot rest plate, taking into consideration that the X'E model not having the foot rest.

Fancy head units

The more I look around, the more I think about changing my head unit. Unfortunately, the good stuff never reach our shores. Whist the folks here goes goo goo over Pioneer's AVH-P6850DVD and AVH-P7850DVD, the folks in other markets have other systems that are way more advanced than what is launched here.

This is one mean machine that I would like to have on my ride.. The Pioneer AVIC-HD1BT. Basically, if you can name it, this unit has it. From Blue Tooth to Advance GPS to HDD to DVD. It's all there.

Link to Pioneer AVIC-HD1BT

Here's another fun model I would love in my Toyota Wish. It's a retro styled High tech Becker 'Mexico 7948'. Again, everything you can think of is on this set. The only thing is the absence of a 7 inch monitor to keep the retro styling.

Link to Becker Mexico 7948

Most unfortunately, both units are not available in Singapore.. Shame.

Original Toyota part numbers

Part number seems to be key in ordering Original Toyota parts. So I'm going to put up all the numbers that I know that keep them as a resource for those that need it. With these numbers, you can just order the right parts (and at the right price) from the parts distributors.

So these are the original Japanese Toyota full replacement Chrome Handles for the X model (1 key hole). And the part number is 81731-17051. I'll see if I can get the original Taiwanese ones later.

Original Replacement ECU

Heard from the folks yesterday that it's possible to buy a replacement ECU (Engine Control Unit) from Japan that's not 'watered down'. Pretty common for Honda Civic and the likes, but seems like it's not that common for Wish yet. Seems like the original part number to order is 89661-68010 for Toyota Wish with 1ZZ-FE engine.

Apparently, it can unlock the car's full potential that was previously restricted by the Japan regulations and further reduced by LTA standards. That's why our Wish have only up to 180 km/h on our speedometer, unlike the Thai versions that goes up to 240 km/h.
Wonder how much that will cost and when it will be available.....Alternatively, there's the piggy back ECU O-bit. Seems to add 50 horsepower to the ride too. Tempting.

15 LED 3rd brake light

It's finally here! Just collected it yesterday night and fixed it up immediately. Now it looks much brighter when you are braking. Nice!

This is the original 3 LED third brake light and the one below is the new 15 LED version. For those interested, this is from Toyota Taiwan and the part number is 81570-0M010.

Here's what it looks like when lit. Not exactly an obvious enhancement, but it certainly improves visibility at night when braking.

Ugly bonnet spoiler

I've never seen anything so ugly...It's a Z/Aerosports rear spoiler inspired bonnet spoiler. Totally ruined the look of the car. From the design, it's not even aero dynamic. Especially at the 2 point. From Taiwan.

Logo emblem for front bonnet

Seems like the elusive Toyota logo emblem with black backing is available as a separate piece. So to replace the Netz logo, there is actually no need to get the entire bonnet garnish.

I'll need the part number for this to be able to order it. But it will cost between S$40 to S$60. Still, it's half the price of a bonnet garnish. Here's the one that Joseph manage to get from Japan. Full replacement front bonnet garnish with the original Toyota logo.

Carbon Fibre Bonnet

Something else to consider. A carbon fibre bonnet for the Toyota Wish. It makes the car light and therefore performs marginally better.

Here's the replacement bonnet with a reverse scoop. You can opt to open the scoop or leave it as a dummy option.

This is the regular replacement type.

Cost should be in the region of about S$780. Excluding spraying to body color. Most folks would show off their Carbon Fibre bonnet if they have a chance. If I ever do it, I think I'll go for a more subtle option.

Mud Guards finally up!

Got these for the longest time, but never go around to installing them. Finally went down to Audio Concept to have the guys install it for S$10.

Compared to the Taiwanese version which is just plain matt gray, the Original Toyota parts from Japan is made of soft ABS material and painted to body color. Much nicer in my opinion.

Here's the front mud guard.

And this is the rear mud guard.

Anti Static Plate

Seems like Toyota makes an anti static plate for their cars. However, it's an optional accessory mounted on the door. Here's a close up and what it looks like and also when it's installed.

Let's see if I can find out more information on this. Wonder if anyone else is interested.

Car couldn't start!!

Came back from a week long trip and when I tried to start the car, it wouldn't start!! No reason for a new car of 3 months (well, 3 and a half months) old to have a dead battery.

The only thing running in the car should be the EZ Stabilizer or the car alarm. In any case, there is no reason that the battery should be drained within 6 days. Anyway, managed to jump start the car and it seems fine now. Will monitor for a few days and see what happens. Thank goodness help was at hand when needed.

Oh...and got a S$50 parking fine too when I met the Wish gang for coffee. Dead battery and a fine is definitely not a good start to the week.

2ZR-FE replaces 1 ZZ-FE Engine

Great! Just shortly after I got my car, Toyota announces a replacement for my engine. Don't feel great driving around with an obsolete engine.

The new 1.8 liter 2ZR-FE engine replaces the 1ZZ-FE in Toyota’s line-up. The 2ZR-FE has a few enhancements over the 1ZZ-FE found in our Toyota Wish 1.8 X, X'E, X Aerosports and X limited models. The new 2ZR-FE has Dual VVT-i which varies valve timing optimally for various engine speeds and loads on both the intake and exhaust valves. The 1ZZ-FE engine only has variable valve timing on the exhaust valves. Maximum torque has increased from 170Nm at 4,200 rpm to 175Nm at 4,400 rpm. Horsepower has increased from 132hp at 6,000 rpm to 136hp at 6,600 rpm. Fuel efficiency is supposed to be 5% higher compared to conventional engines.

Official Toyota announcement here.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes...

How to make your Wish ugly

I can't imagine why anyone would want to do this to their car.

Firstly, mismatched triming patterns. Carbon fibre with oak grain colored buttons. Then, the buttons cover all the words so you can't see what functions they are for. Drilling holes in the buttons does not help either.

Yucks! Yucks!

Graziso kit from American Racing

This is the Graziso body kit for the pre face lift Toyota Wish. From American Racing, Japan. What is of interest is that the front and rear bumper as well as the side skirt all comes with chrome trim. Most of the body kits are plain, or at best, with a small logo on the front bumper. The chrome trim is a nice touch and I'm sure it'll look great on an Executive/VIP styled black ride.

Blitz R-Vit I Color is out!

It's out!! An alternative to a set of meters on the dashboard!

The Blitz R-Vit i-Color is the successor to the popular Blitz R-Vit. The R-Vit i-color extracts useful information from various built-in factory sensors in your car through the factory On-Board Diagnositic port (OBD II). There are no messy wire tapping or cutting except just for power supply and a plug and play connector.

The data is then displayed to user by a 65,000 colours TFT screen. You may choose to display the information in traditional "needle meter" form, two row or upto 6 rows of display. The R-Vit i-Color has "Peak", "Warn", and "Record" functions. It is also capable of accepting one temperature sensor, and either one pressure sensor or a wide band Air/Fuel ratio sensor.

Reading includes:

Speed n RPM n Water Temperature, Fuel Injection Timing, Air Flow Voltage, Intake Air Temperature, Outside Air Temperature, O2 Voltage, Mass Air Flow, Throttle Position, Auto Transmission Temperature, Gear Position, Instant Fuel Economy, Fault Detection. It accepts 1x Blitz Temp Sensor (Optional) Accepts 1x Blitz Pressure Sensor (Optional) OR 1x Blitz Wide Band O2 Sensor (Optional)

The following reading are not support on Toyota Wish:

Battery Voltage, Intake Manifold Pressure, Boost Pressure, O2R Voltage, AF1, AF2, 4WD Distribution Ration, Combustion Pressure, Combust Pressure Control, Fuel Consumption Control and Fan Control.

What would make it perfect for me is the Battery Voltage indicator. Shame. Priced at S$630, excluding the optional sensors, it's definitely a cleaner presentation and a cheaper alternative to Defi meters.

Door garnish

Subtle difference, but what a difference. These door garnish basically makes the windows of the car a continous, large dark panel. Much more impactful than the orignal presentation. Something like the Toyota Estima.
Here's the modified Wish. Notice how the front and rear door pillars match up in terms of material. It's more dynamic and sporty looking.

Here's the Toyota Estima, which also sports the same look, with all the windows and doors frame/pillar in matching color.

And here's a close up of the garnish itself. It's actually a stick on and available from Japan at a princely sum more than S$200!! Beauty is expensive.
If my car is not black in color, I will definitely get it. At least, there is a consolation of owning a black car. Alternatively, you can consider glossy black stickers for the same area for S$60. It looks almost as nice from a distance.

Toyota Sports Lid

Another object of desire. The sports lid (which is actually a nice name for fuel door cover) from Toyota. It's some kind of tinted acrylic and looks really sharp with a metallic fuel cap. Even on a black car, it's going to look fantastic.

Available for various models, including Celica, Estima, Lexus, etc. Wonder if there's one for Toyota Wish too. Need to check it out. But.. it's not cheap. JYP 13800. By the time we get it in Singapore, it's probably in the region of S$250 to S$300. Ouch!
Cheers,

Tyre and Rim size

Hmmm...
Seems like I may not have the correct tyre size after all. The original tyres should be 195/65R15. So when we upgrade to the 17 inch rims, we should have 225/45R17. At least according to the following site:
What I have currently is Yokohama AVS dB 215/45R17. This means that my speedometer reading is actually 1.4% too fast. If speedometer shows that I'm travelling at 100 km/h, the actual speed would only be 98.6 km/h.

Defensive parking

Interesting term. Defensive parking.

SDN1010 posted this in the Toyota Wish forum and it seems to make sense..
When POSSIBLE: Do NOT park next to:
1) Commercial vehicle (Taxi, pickup, van etc)
2) Heavy vehicle (Lorry etc. this one obvious right?)
3) a Continental/European Make car
4) a Honda
5) a Mitsubishi
6) a Subaru
7) a car with only 2 doors (coupe etc.)
8 ) a car with head in backside facing out
9) motorcycle lots
and try to park with a Pillar on your left.
And the reasons for the above:
No. 3 because those cars the doors are thicker and heavier. Even an unintentional knock on your door will result with a dent.
No. 7 is because cars with 2 doors, normally their doors are longer than normal. Chances are, they will hit your car when they open the door.
No. 8 refers to cars who parked head in instead of the normal reverse in. Can be any cars not necessary foreign cars. The reasons are quite complex though no research and evidence to prove the theory:
  • If you park head in, chances are you are a 'impatient' person. When you are impatient, you tent to be 'careless' when opening your door or driving out.
  • People who park head in may belong to the group who prefers 'sweeterner first and suffer later' vs the chinese saying of 'suffer first and sweeterner later' (Xian Ku Hou Tian). There is no right or wrong in either type of attitude in life. But the first group tend to be more carefree and sometimes 'careless'. when 'careless',.....
  • If you look at a car, only the front wheels turn. Today's design of car is such that the front is longer and ther boot is shorter. This makes you easier to turn out of a lot or U-turn as by the time you turn the back of the car is almost out and won't hit other car, pillar, curb etc due to the short boot. But if you park head in, you will have to reverse quite a lot before you can turn your steering, else your car front will bound to hit something. And again if the driver doesn't not reverse far enough or cannot see clearly as he need to turn his head to see the back, he may hit your car who is parked next to his.
For parking next to a pillar:
  • A car will always have a driver, but not necessary has a passenger. So if you park next to a pillar on your left, there could only be one car on your right. And it is the passenger side that is next to you. You reduce the chance of people openning door next to your car.
  • There is no car on your left as it is a pillar.
Food for thought...

Broquet fuel charger

Test drive Justin's fully loaded black beauty on Saturday and it seems more responsive on the low end. He attributed it to the "operation" on his exhaust and the Broquet (fuel charger from UK) that he installed recently.
Seems like the immediate benefits includes:
  • Fuel Savings (Up to 30%)
  • Reduced Exhaust Emissions (Up to 90%)
  • Environmentally Friendly
  • Use of Unleaded Petrol in all petrol vehicles
  • Reduced Oil Consumption
  • Cleaner Lubrication Oil
  • Increased Horsepower
  • Smoother Acceleration
  • Fewer Gear Changes
  • Quieter Running
And long term benefits includes:
  • Reduced Maintenance
  • Longer Engine Life
  • Lesser carbon deposits
  • Fewer replacements of spare parts
The Top Fueller 80 Racing at S$1260 seems like the ideal choice, but I'm not sure if you need to supplement it with the in tank units. Doesn't seem to be the case. Anyway, this unit may just be too big for the Toyota Wish engine bay if you want to be discreet. The BoostMASTER 50 will be the next alternative.
Anyway, the benefits sounds too good to be true. More horsepower, better acceleration for less fuel! And makes the engine quiet too! I'm going to be doing more research on this. Adding it to my Wish list!
More information can be found at www.broquet.com.sg

Toyota Premium Horn

Seems like Toyota also makes a Premium Horn for their cars. It provides a orchestra-like, high-class 400/500Hz tone that makes stock horns sound dull. The one for Toyota Wish sounds rather lame, especially when you have soundproofing on. Not cheap at JPY 5250. You can even hear the horn here...
The one above is taken from the Toyota bB page, but this horn is suitable for all cars except those equipped with Remote Start function. I wonder why.....
There are also other after market replacements which are available locally. I think I will most probably go for those than to wait for a few weeks for this. Autobacs has them from S$18. Choice of colors available too!

Modified Toyota Wish Z model

Dug this up during aimless suring again. Pre Face Lift Malaysian Toyota Wish Z model. Fully modified.
Smoked headlight comes as a standard, but this may be further tinted inside. Bonnet spoiler. Full replacement Kenstyle bodykit. Sun roof is original with the car.

Rear view. Kenstyle spoiler, stainless steel antenna, smoked tail light (probably from Gump) Body color rear door garnish.

19 inch rims from G Games, Endless brake set with upsized rotor. Real beauty!!

And it doesn't just stop outside. Look at the interior! 7 LCD screens! Customised I.C.E. setup, complete with LED lights. Oh. The second row seats are separate for Z model. Just a note.

Looking at the rear speakers, probably running a 5.1 system too. It's a customised pillar to hold the speakers. Well matched to the interiors.

While we don't know what other engine modifications are there, but the Recaro seats gives a pretty good clue.

I'll say this is definitely one cool ride. Got presence!

Cheers,
